Born & raised on Maui, Leonani is a woman of patience, grace, and pure aloha. Leo in Hawaiian means voice and nani means beauty. Along with her beautiful voice of encouragement she also conceals patience for the powerful traditional Hawaiian lei that she creates. The aloha put into the making of the lei hulu (feather lei) begins with the first string setting and ends when it is gifted. Meaningful mana (power) is transferred from one hand to the other. Leonani is a woman of many kuleana (responsibilities) but, keeping the spirit of lei making alive is one of her first priorities in life.

Mahalo to the County of Maui and the Office of Economic Development for their support of the Hui’s Art with Aloha program.
