Artist 2 Artist
Henry Kapono & Robi Kahakalau

McCoy Studio Theater

Friday, February 1, 2019 – 7:30 PM

In this engaging MACC concert series, two artists talk-story, play music, and have fun! Each concert will feature Henry Kapono and a different guest artist in an intimate format that offers the audience a rare opportunity to get up-close and personal. The artists will share music and stories from their careers and answer questions, giving the audience an up-close-and-personal seat at the jam session. This concert features Robi Kahakalau.

Henry Kapono is a performer who has it all – vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, composer, thrilling performer, audience favorite—and multiple honors and awards, including a Grammy nomination. He has taken home numerous Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, including Male Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year, Single of the Year, and Album & Rock Album of the Year.

Hawaiian singer/guitarist and Na Hoku Hanohano award-winner Robi Kahakalau mixes the sounds of her native islands with elements of reggae, pop, singer/songwriter, folk, and rock balladry, plus the occasional touch of jazz and R&B. Not only that, her linguistic skills are as eclectic as her musical tastes — she’s fluent in English, French, Hawaiian, and Tahitian, and all four tongues show up on her recordings.

The Grammy Museum exhibit is the genesis of this “Artist 2 Artist” concert series, created and hosted by Henry Kapono and featuring iconic Hawaiian artists performing hit songs that have become local anthems and the soundtrack for many growing up in Hawai‘i. Henry Kapono talks one-on-one with his guests about their careers, followed by an intimate jam session and concert you don’t want to miss!
